The agency Leforestier offers a variety of properties from the prestigious castle to the charming cottage in the Normandy countryside. But what is a countryside house in Normandy ?
Very widespread in Normandy there is the longère Normande: The etymology of the word longère comes from the "house with development in length". Indeed the property of the farmhouse is that its construction follows the axis of the ridge (major axis of the frame). This type of habitat was very widespread until the second half of the 19th century, it was mostly artisans or small farmers who, having a large enough plot of land, built their habitat there.
There are different types of farmhouse. The materials used for construction vary by region. Mainly present in the northern part of France, there are farmhouses in Brittany, Normandy, Picardy but also to the region around Paris. The Norman farmhouse, it is most often built in half-timbering or brick. Half-timbering, this technique of construction of wood and cob wall, was frequently used in Norman house construction. This is what makes the famous charm of Normandy visible in cities like Honfleur or Rouen. Example of longère Normande with half-timbering sold by the agency: Longère of charm on the Alabaster Coast.
Beyond the longhouse, the country house designates more generally in the common speech, a second home or at least a property on the fringe of the cities. More recent homes, sometimes in wood construction, sometimes architectural or simply having a particular charm thanks to an exceptional location are all homes that may potentially interest buyers of country houses.
